Earlier this college football season, Kelly Bryant was benched in favor of freshman quarter back Trevor Lawrence. This move was criticized, and also defended, by many sports analysts. Kelly Bryant would then announce that he would transfer to a new school for next year's season and would make his decision by December 4th of this year. It is reported that he has narrowed down his choices to five schools: Arkansas, Auburn, Missouri, Mississippi State and North Carolina.
When I read that Arkansas made the list my mind was blown, but in a good way. If you think about it, Kelly Bryant will be a game changer for any of these programs. If he goes to Arkansas, it will be the biggest thing to happen to that state since Bill Clinton won the presidency. But why is Arkansas the place for Kelly Bryant? If you break down the pool of five teams, Arkansas is the fourth best team. I did some digging and figured out why Arkansas is the place for him. But first, let's take a look at the other schools and why they aren't the choice for him.
Auburn: Sure, they are one of the better teams in the SEC and have a great rivalry with Alabama, but Auburn currently has a four-star recruit in Bo Nix committed to the program. I'm not saying Kelly Bryant can't compete with him; I'm sure Bryant would win the starting position hands down. However, if Bryant were to get hurt and benched again, he would be in a position similar to the one he is currently in. Why would he want to leave Clemson just to be put in the same position.
Missouri: Missouri is an appealing offer, especially fresh off the Drew Lock era, but I feel like they have hit their peak in the SEC. They had two good seasons with Pinkel as head coach, but with Odom they have been bad to average in the SEC. The harsh reality of the Mizzou Tigers football program is that they are still a Big 12 school pretending to be an SEC team. Not to mention they are one of THREE Tiger teams in the SEC, and the third best at that.
Mississippi State: The Bulldogs. Gritty. Good uniforms. A team that has come a long way. Good coaching, good quarterbacks, but who the fuck wants to live in Mississippi? I'm not trying to shit on the school or state, but I have never heard or met someone that wants to live there by choice.
North Carolina: He doesn't play basketball. They suck and they wear baby blue by choice. Enough said.
Arkansas: Arkansas has a cool team name, the Razorbacks. It's a name that strikes fear, and the logo backs that up with its angry demeanor and what not. They have great uniforms. They also have Chad Morris. Chad Morris is the current head coach of the Razorbacks, but he used to coach for Clemson. Though he never actually coached Kelly Bryant, he did coach Bryant's cousin Martavis Bryant. Morris also recruited Kelly Bryant to Clemson. If Kelly is worried about his draft status, he shouldn't. I know Arkansas is not known for top Draft prospects, but if Bryant wants to show his goods and how he can turn a loser into a winner, then this is the school. Even just turning Arkansas into a competitive team will do the trick. Imagine, Arkansas beats Alabama with Kelly Bryant under center. Bryant would garner the same main stream attention Johnny Manziel did. He might even get more. I can see the headline already, "Scorned Transfer QB Upsets Alabama!"
So please, Kelly Bryant, on decision day, please proclaim "WOOOO PIG, SOOIE!"
