What I Want from the Browns this Draft

My favorite team, the Cleveland Browns, finished the season 7-8-1 and have landed themselves the 17th overall pick in the 2019 Draft. This is pretty unchartered territory; I mean, what does one do during the Draft while they wait for their team to make late round selections (haha)? But anyway, this Cleveland Browns team has a bright future, and this draft and overall off-season is uber important moving forward. Not only do the Browns need to find their new head coach and make sure he is the guy to carry them moving forward, but the Browns also need to treat this draft as they did last year's draft.

The Browns definitely have needs; they aren't perfect. I think the Browns need more depth and at least one more reliable wide receiver option on the roster. Are we in desperate need of a wide receiver in the first round? Yes and no. Another position that has a pretty big question mark on it is the left tackle position. The Browns had more than one guy anchor down the blind side of Baker Mayfield, but should we use a first round pick on a left tackle? Yes and no.

What makes this draft so hard for the Cleveland Browns is the fact that wide receiver Breshad Perriman and left tackle Greg Robinson both had career resurrections with the 2018 Browns. Both of these players were labeled first round busts from their respective drafts and were on their way out of the NFL. The Cleveland Browns, however, addressed their need for more wide receiver depth by adding and taking a chance on Breshad Perriman, and Perriman delivered. We saw what kind of wide receiver he can be. Greg Robinson, as well, made a huge impact for the Browns. In fact, he was part of an O-line that didn't allow Baker Mayfield to get sacked for a couple of games; he really was a big part of the O-line this year. The Browns also have a young LT by the name of Desmond Harrison who showed signs of good play but also showed he had a lot to work on.

In the first round, the Browns should probably find their next left tackle; there is more of a need for it than a wide receiver. As good as Greg Robinson was, he just isn't a long term option for that position going forward. Breshad Perriman is more of a long term option than Robinson (I'm not saying Perriman is a long term option, just more of one than Robinson). So who do we take? Yodny Cajuste and Dalton Risner are probably the best bets at that position, so I would look out for those two names going forward.

In other rounds I hope the Browns draft DT Jeffery Simmons from Miss St., WR Hakeem Butler from Iowa State and LB Gary Johnson in JUCO football; Johnson is the best LB talent I have ever seen. The man is a beast. The Browns have great linebackers, but if Gary Johnson is still on the board in the 4th or 5th round, take him. I'm not saying he should start, but he would be an awesome rotation player for the LBs of the Cleveland Browns. Look at the damage we did with Genard Avery from Memphis year. Plus, after the Ravens/Browns game in Week 17, I love the Browns linebackers, but we might need some more depth at the position just to help the D-line contain Lamar Jackson, who ran a lot and was hard to contain in that game. This could be especially important since the Ravens announced they would be moving forward with Lamar Jackson at starting quarterback.
