Watch out Dallas, There is a New Maverick in Town

Yesterday, the Dallas Mavericks traded Dennis Smith Jr., DeAndre Jordan, Wesley Matthews, and two future first round picks for the Knicks' franchise player, Kristaps Porzingis and a couple other players. This is a blockbuster trade; the Knicks have given away the player that they have been calling their savior and franchise player since his rookie season. This is why the NBA sucks. I truly do believe that in the five major sports organizations (NFL, MLB, NHL, MLS, and NBA), the NBA is last. I do enjoy watching it, but it is hard to enjoy a team when they have a totally new roster every half season.

This trade, however, is very intriguing to me for two reasons. One, it will be very interesting to see how Kristaps Porzingis rebounds (no pun intended) from his ACL injury on the new-look Dallas team. Two, why do they think Porzingis is their saving grace? Have the Mavericks not watched Porzingis during his Knicks tenure? Porzingis is a great player and anyone would want him, but the fact is Porzingis has never made the playoffs, not once. And actually, since they have drafted Porzingis, the Knicks have never been to the playoffs, have never won a conference or division title, and have only placed as high as 11 in Eastern Conference standings. Yikes! I know the New York Knicks are a dumpster fire organization, but if Kristaps Porzingis was ‘The Guy' he’d be able to bring the Knicks into the playoffs, especially in the Eastern Conference. Now he will be in the Western Conference in a division with the Spurs and Rockets; I’d include the Pelicans too, but not without Anthony Davis. The tandem of Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis will be intriguing, but I don’t know man, this has pretty great potential to backfire.
