Gosh damn it Chicago! Gosh damn it! I am not a fan of Chicago sports; I love my Cleveland Browns, but unfortunately, I didn’t have a horse in this year’s playoffs and Brickhouse Sportz needed to make predictions on games. I remember looking at this game and thinking to myself that by all stats the Bears should maul the Eagles; but in the back of my head a little voice said, “Nick Foles” and that shit had me scared, and rightfully so. I picked the Bears. The Eagles went on to beat the Bears, but it came down to one play. Cody Parkey of the Bears missed his field goal and ended his team's season. Now I will go on the record as to saying this, should Cody Parkey have missed that field goal? No. He is a professional field goal kicker. But I think most of the blame should go on the offense because holy shit, the Bears offense couldn’t score. The Eagles had one of the worst pass offenses in the league, and Nick Foles threw two picks! Yes, Mitch threw for 303 yards, but they hardly scored! He scored once in his 303 yards of passing! The defense did their jobs, for the most part. The offense dropped the ball, figuratively and literally. The offense lost this game for the Bears, not Cody Parkey. Cody Parkey scored more than anyone else on the offense!
Bears fans, you guys deserve better. The game shouldn’t have been that close, not at all. I will say this, in a city that does have its nice things and attractions, Chicago sports are just yuck. Like, I understand the Bulls won six rings; okay, congrats? That was in the 90’s; focus on the now. The Bulls are a mess. The Cubs won a World Series a couple years ago for the first time in like 108 years, and they were supposed to be this big power house team that was supposed to contend for World Series for years to come; well, what a drop off that has been. I know they have still been making the playoffs, but getting beat by the Dodgers 4-1 and then this season losing to the Rockies in the Wild Card is a drop off to me. The Blackhawks have been good, but haven’t won one since the 2014-2015 Stanley Cup. The White Sox are just the White Sox, I don’t know? But the Bears. The freaking Bears. This was a year they could have made a legitimate run in the playoffs with the Khalil Mack factor and Mitch having a good year, but wow. Just wow Chicago. You all had to know this would happen. Bears fans, you should be embarrassed right now. This is also a big free agency year for you guys; you guys just better hope that your players sign those small deals I have talked about in other blogs, but I don’t like those chances. The Bears had the chance to put the spot light back on Chicago sports, and they blew it when it mattered. The Eagles swooped in, talons drawn, with a crazed look in their eyes and did the unthinkable. An Eagle killed a Bear. The Eagles are now Kings of the North.
If you Bears fans are saying, “Oh we'll get them next year,” good luck. With Khalil Mack’s huge and almost impossible to work around contract, the Bears will be missing the playoffs again in no time. Don’t be excited Chicago sports, a long road is ahead.
