Tim Tebow, who many know as the former Florida Gator's and Denver Broncos quarterback and for his outspoken stance on the Christian faith, has been promoted to Triple A baseball and is one step closer to playing for the New York Mets. Next season he will be playing for the Syracuse Mets until called upon to play for the New York Mets.
Brody Van Wagenon, who is the New York Mets new GM, announced Tim Tebow's promotion to Triple A after the blockbuster trade that saw the NY Mets acquire Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz (I apologize for not using the correct Spanish punctuation). As a Mets fan I have my thoughts about both of these moves (I do like the acquisition of those talents, but this is about Tim). I do honestly think Tim Tebow deserves the promotion.
Last season, Tim Tebow played for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (great fucking name) and was named as a member of the Eastern League All-Star Game. His season came to an end after he broke the hamate bone in his right hand. He batted a .273 on the season, which isn't too bad. If you like Tebow or not, you can't deny the drive this guy has and the hard work he puts in. After the NFL didn't go the way he had hoped, he jumped to baseball. You would think an athlete/celebrity of his status would be pushed to the moon, especially with a franchise like the Mets who time and time again gives us fans a reason to shake our heads in agony. Tim Tebow, though, has shown Mets fans why he actually may belong on the New York Mets roster.
The reason I referenced the Cano and Diaz trade earlier is because of how it pertains to the Tebow situation. Tebow is a left/center fielder; the trade that brought Cano and Diaz to New York also sent Jay Bruce and Jarred Kelenic (both outfielders) to Seattle. If you know the Mets, you know that they usually have a good roster but are always plagued with injuries to the point where they can't compete. Yoenis Cespedes, who is a NY Mets outfielder (and personal favorite of mine) can grip and rip a bat pretty well but is injured and out of commission for a while. That leaves the New York Mets with five outfielders, which means that the Mets could be one injury away from promoting Tebow to the MLB.
Is Brody Van Wagenen banking on another injury riddled season for the Mets? Probably. It's the Mets. My best guess is that Tim Tebow will be seen in the Mets outfield by mid-May of the upcoming season. Hoepfully, his batting average can go up a little bit. I want to see it hit anywhere between .302-.315 before making his debut, but at the same time I want to see Timmy Baseball! I want Tebow-mania to run wild in Queens. I want Time Tebow to take the Mets to the World Series and win the thing! Tim, please be a beast in Triple A. From a fan of a franchise that literally had a mental health professional offer free therapy sessions for Mets fans, we need this!
As always ...
LET'S GO METS!
