Le'Bron James recently stated that he is the G.O.A.T. of basketball, and that is just not true. Yes, he has been in a shit ton of finals and has won some. He even brought a title to the city of Cleveland, a city that hadn't seen a championship in sports in 52 years. Le'Bron James has every right to proclaim himself the G.O.A.T. His stats and legacy can back that up, but he is not my G.O.A.T. of basketball. Many people would argue that Michael Jordan is the G.O.A.T. I have even heard outlandish claims that Kobe Bryant is the greatest of all time. Nothing against Kobe; he is a tremendous player and one of the greatest, but come on, that statement is insane.
My G.O.A.T. of the sport of basketball is none other than the legend of the ABA, the savior of the Flint Michigan Tropics, the owner, player and coach extraordinaire Jackie Moon. The man is the Guru of the Granny Shot at the free throw line; he invented the alley oop, a play that all basketball fans love to see work in all its glory. He helped turn what was the ABA's worst franchise into champions. He also executed what might be the best trade in all of professional sports. He traded a washing machine and stretcher for former NBA champion Ed Monix. Ed Monix helped turn the Tropics into champions and even hit the game winning shot for the last ABA championship. Moon also signed Downtown Funky Stuff Malone (Clarence Withers), also known Coffee Black. He would go on to the NBA after the ABA went under and had, what I am guessing, a successful career. Jackie Moon also had a number one hit single, "Love Me Sexy." He is the master of half-time shows. He wrestled a live bear in a make-shift MMA style cage. Moon is also known as the only person who has gone to heaven and came back to Earth to tell the tale. Extraordinary. Jackie Moon is the G.O.A.T. of basketball. It is indisputable.
