The day is upon us; it is finally here ...the very first game day of the AAF (Alliance of American Football) and I am here to tell you why you should watch.
Are you one of the many people who go, "Well, the Super Bowl is done. What am I going to watch on Sundays now? Now you have an alternative, the AAF. These games will be played on Saturdays and also on Sundays like regularly scheduled NFL games. There are eight teams: the Birmingham Iron, Atlanta Legends, Memphis Express (my team), Arizona Hotshots, Orlando Apollos, San Diego Fleet, Salt Lake City Stallions, and the San Antonio Commanders. The Arizona Hotshots are favored to win the first AAF championship, which I think is weird considering none of these teams have played a regular season game, ever, but Las Vegas has to have their odds and favorites.
If just having a football hangover isn’t enough, maybe some of the talent and coaches will get you to watch. Trent Richardson, who was once a human tank for the Alabama Crimson Tide and Cleveland Browns, will be playing for the Birmingham Iron on Sunday; who wouldn’t want to see Trent Richardson run people over like he did with the Crimson Tide and the Browns. I know I do, and I also hope he can maybe even recapture some of his former glory. Trevor Knight, the former Oklahoma Sooners QB, will be making the start for the Arizona Hotshots. Former Georgia Bulldog Aaron Murray and former Nittany Lion Christian Hackenberg will also be making the starts for their teams. Of course, let’s not forget Josh Johnson, who made a little splash in this NFL season for Washington, will be leading his San Diego Fleet on a conquest.
If that still is not enough for you, then you will also get to see legendary coach Steve Spurrier coach once again with the Orlando Apollos. Michael Vick will actually not be the Atlanta Legends offensive coordinator anymore, as some contractual events led to the decision of them letting him go of that title, but they do still hope that he serves on the Atlanta Legends staff in some way.
Ladies and Gentlemen, please watch; it is on CBS on Saturday and Sunday. If you are a person who complains about not watching football until college or the next NFL season starts, you no longer have that excuse. I know I will be watching; hopefully it is good football! I will be rooting for the Memphis Express.
ALL ABOARD!
