Kyler Murray is How Tall?

So the other day I was watching ESPN when the discussion of Kyler Murray declaring for the NFL Draft came up. One reporter talked about how Kyler will probably be a second or third round pick in this year’s draft! To me this is absolutely blasphemous; he is the reigning Heisman Trophy winner and actually put up better stats than last year’s Heisman winner and No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield. In fact, Kyle broke a lot, if not all, of Baker’s records. That is not a knock on Baker Mayfield; I am just stating how good Kyler Murray was this year. The reporters continued to talk and brought up that he was the No. 9 overall pick in the MLB draft, selected by the Oakland Athletics. In the MLB, if you are a first round selection that is just phenomenal. Then the reporters brought up why they think Kyler Murray will fall in this draft, a draft that really doesn’t have that great of a QB crop. The reason they think Murray will fall is that Kyler Murray is fucking 5’9!

What the fuck! How did I not know this? A short guy myself, I am a firm believer that short athletes can do the same, if not better, jobs than taller athletes. When I watched Kyler Murray I just thought he was the average 6’2 college QB. When they said he was 5’9, I was absolutely shaken. I love small QBs; guys like Russell Wilson, Drew Brees, and Baker Mayfield are all proving that you don’t have to be the 6’3 to 6’5 QB mold to be an elite QB in the NFL. Height does probably help, and the smallest of all those guys is Russell Wilson, who I believe is 5’11. But 5’9?! Many will say that he may be too small for the NFL at the QB position; I don’t believe that because he played for a power 5 program at a Heisman Trophy winning level, so clearly height isn’t a disadvantage for the guy. Well he can’t see over his linemen, you might say. Debatable. You can’t tell me that the Oklahoma starting offensive line will be any shorter than a NFL offensive line ( yes, I know there is a size difference when going to the NFL, but height usually doesn’t change). Kyler Murray, I don’t know what you will decide to do, but go prove them wrong.
